You Don't Know What You Don't Know
Have you ever met someone who thought they knew everything? A "know it all"? Don't you think people like that are annoying? I do. You know the kind of person I'm talking about, they are the ones who have an answer for every question, they have done everything you talk about doing and they have been every place you talk about going. They always have something to say about everything. The real deal is, most of the time, they are dead wrong! Sometimes they make things up in order to appear knowledgeable and they always want people to think they are cool and interesting.
The fact of the matter is you don't know what you don't know. As we go through life, we will learn new things all the time; this is part of the journey. Our experience in life brings knowledge to each of us at different speeds. Some people seem to be more experienced and have learned at a more rapid pace than others. When this happens there is always the danger of becoming a "know it all" person. The way to combat this is to always remain teachable and humble.
Our knowledge and experience is not to be used to show people how smart we are. It's meant to bring glory and attention to the one who created us. Our life experience is God's way of teaching us things that will help us fulfill our purpose. Let us not forget, our purpose is to have a relationship with Christ and then to help others develop a relationship with Him too. Let's take the focus off of us (and how smart we are), humble ourselves, and acknowledge that we still have a lot to learn.
None of us knows everything that God wants to teach us and none of us have all the answers. The Bible tells us that wisdom comes from listening and learning. You can learn from anyone, if you take the time to listen. And remember, "you don't know what you don't know".
