The Thing About Superheros by Pastor Eric
Growing up as a kid I had a huge thing for superheroes. I loved them all. They seemed larger than life to me. My dad would often buy me the figurines to play with and I had to have them all. My dad's favorite was Batman and so my favorite became Batman as well. I can still remember when Batman the movie came out with Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. My dad, brother and I saw the movie in the theater three times. I was often fond of Superman, Daredevil, and Spiderman. The way they fought the bad guys and helped people spoke to my young heart.
Well, not much has changed as I've grown older. I still love superheroes. I guess I never outgrew that stage. I know what you're thinking, "Does he still collect the figurines?" Well... no comment. I decided a little while ago to look into the stories of a few of them a little deeper. I focused my attention on my favorites: Batman, Superman, Spiderman and Daredevil. As I looked into their stories I obviously noticed their accomplishments and who they had become. Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne was a wealthy business man and we know how popular Batman was in Gotham City. Spiderman made headlines all the time for his heroics and Peter Parker was a nice, well liked young man. Superman holds the title for most powerful superhero and Clark Kent was a handsome, successful man and had the most attractive of all the superhero girlfriends (in my opinion). Matt Murdock, Daredevil, became a lawyer in New York and helped clean up the streets of New York City's Hell's Kitchen. They had all accomplished great things, but the thing that stuck out to me the most was they all had faced tragedy and had overcome it.
Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered in front of him when he was a young boy. Peter Parker didn't have his birth parents and lived with his uncle Ben until he was murdered. Clark Kent's family, entire race and planet had been destroyed. Matt Murdock had his sight taken from him as a young man and his father was murdered as well. These men all suffered terrible loss, but it drove them to become something greater.
Many times when people go through trials like these they take on a victim mentality and become a part of the problem, not the solution. These guys are heroes for far more than their abilities. They are heroes for how they handled the trials and tragedy they faced. God never said we would go through life untouched by tragedy. He never promised life would be easy once we decided to follow Him. Can you and I be heroes? I believe we can when we decide no matter what we go through we will live for God and impact the world around us in a positive way.
Will you be a superhero to someone in this generation? Will you make it your purpose to save this world through serving Jesus? Webster defines the word HERO as "A figure in mythology and legend renowned for exceptional courage and fortitude." Why not make that a reality? Be the hero.
Word up, yo! (said in a high nasally voice) Pastor Eric "Fair Hair Brotha'"

God's Creation by Craig Hunt
The following is a peom written by my new friend, Craig Hunt. Craig is a new creation in Christ. After having battled with drug addiction for a few years, Craig has recommitted his heart the Lord is walking each day in God's presence trying to escape the demons of drug addiction. Pray for him! I know the poem is a little long, but please take the time to read it and share it with anyone that you think it might minister to. Just yesterday, I visited a young man who is in jail and is coming to grips with the fact that he will most likely be locked up for a long time. His road started with the use of illegal drugs as well. This issue is rampant and us believers need to do all we can to help people find freedom from drug addiction. Let me know what you think, email me at alex@originalbrotha.com.
Word...
Dear God's Beautiful Creation, If a glamorous lifestyle is appealing to you, And you want to try me, and you feel you have nothing to lose, Then let me give you a bit of advice, You're a fool and you better think twice. I destroy homes and tear families apart, I'll take your children and that's just for a start. I'm more valued than diamonds, more valued than gold, The sorrow I'll bring to you is a sight to behold. If you need me, remember I'm easily found, I live all around you, in schools, and downtown. I live with the rich, I live with the poor, I live just down the road and maybe next door. I'm made in the lab and not like you think, I could easily be made under you sink. Maybe in your kids closet, or out in the woods, If this scares you to death, it probably should. I have many names, but there's one you know best, I'm sure you've heard of me, my name's Crystal Meth. My power is awesome, just try me, you'll see, But if you do you may never break free; If you try me just once I may let you go; Yet try me twice I may own your soul. When I possess you, you'll steal, lie, You'll do whatever I say, just to get high. You'll lie to your mom, you'll steal from your dad, When you see tears streaming down your face you wont be sad. Just forget your morals and how you were raised, I'll be your new conscience, I'll show you my ways. If you try me be warned this isn't a game, If given the chance, I'll drive you insane. I'll break down your body, & control your mind, I'll own you completely, your soul will be mine. The nightmares you'll get when you lie there in bed, The voices you'll hear from inside your head, The sweats, the shakes, the visions you'll see, I want you to know, these were gifts from me. But by then it'll be too late, and you'll know in your heart That you are truly mine and we shall never part. You'll regret you tried me, they always do. But you must remember you came to me, not I to you. You knew this would happen, how many times you were told. Still you challenged my power, you chose to be bold. You should have said no, just turned and walked away, If you could live that day over, what would you say? My power is awesome as I told you before, I can make your true love become a whore. Now go on and curse me with every last breath. Just make up your mind will it be life or Meth. I'll take everything from your family, friends, money and home, I'll never stop 'til we're all alone. I'll take everything from your looks, health and your pride; I'll be the only one there for you, I'll be right by your side. I'll take and I'll take until there's no more to give, When I'm done you'll be lucky if you live. You'll take unknown paths in this journey in life, Some will bring happiness others will bring strife. But my path is one, that when crossed, Very few have escaped, most lives have been lost, Well now that you've met me, what will you do? Will you try me or not, it's all up to you. I can show you more misery than my words can tell. Come take my hand as I lead you straight to hell!!!
Love, The Demon-Crystal Meth
-------------
Dear The Demon Crystal Meth, You talk a good talk, you sound tough, you sound bold, I got a little secret, you're going to hell with your father, truth be told. I created you, you chose havoc, chaos, destruction, you had your turn, Oh what was that? You didn't hear? You're gonna eternally burn. The people are blind, you come masquerading as fun, And those who love you, their life, yah it was fun, but what a short run. You think you're powerful, because they chose you over me? But I already knew that, that's why I laughed and let it be. I know why you wrote that, your intent sounded like boasting, Umm, something smells good. Is that your spirit? It's roasting! Stop screaming so I can hear you. What's that? You didn't mean it? Well, now you're learning!! As far as your letter, you're a hack, you're whack, you can't rhyme, And the lives you've destroyed, you're next and it's only a matter of time. Do you think I'm hurt and crying, who me have the blues? See, I foreknew, you served your purpose, you got played, you got used! In this life, this world, there's only one purpose that will prevail. So know that you know, just pack your bags, I got probable cause-NO BAIL! That's right, guilty you are, convicted, to Hades you go, I thought you were laughing? Oh look, there's your brother-"Blow". Are the chains getting heavy? I bet your butt's numb sitting on death row. Eternal condemnation, God's wrath, I know it's a lot to chew, But I warned them in the BIBLE, and was extremely patient too. The children of the devil, they didn't take heed to my wrath, The fallen angels too, I told them, yet they chose the wrong path. Your letter sounded sincere, like a warning, but I know you wanted to brag, I can see your heart and your so called, "good deeds", are like minstrel rags. There's only one way out of this mess you've gotten yourself into, Just repent, and I'm faithful and just, I promise to forgive you. See I just couldn't let Crystal Meth, that demon cause fear, So I had to respond so you'd know that, "Love, Life, and the Light" are here. Life or death, Choose Life! Choose Life! The choice is yours, But just so you know, when I touch you, you're gonna hit the floor! Because my Spirit, the Holy Ghost, offers life, deliverance, strength, and power, Crystal Meth is weak, talks a good talk, but like his father, he's a coward. He's not the answer, he's a deathly trap into a life of sin. If you choose me, I'll save you, I'll call you my son, and then, I'll give you eternal life, my nature, what's more? I'll bless everything you touch, you'll never want, or be poor. The gifts, the promises, the fruit you accept are just a start, All you have to pray is, "Jesus come into my heart". Now if you still hate this world, not happy, and you want to get high, And you think Crystal Meth is the best high, and will cause you to fly, Just get baptized in my Spirit, and then you'll be on cloud nine. One of my servants will lay his hands on you, and then you'll be mine. See-I'M A POWERFUL FORCE-I'm invisible, you can't see, And if you want freedom, I'm the door and only Jesus has the key. If you're an addict and demons like Crystal Meth have you bound, Then open the Word, accept Jesus, and true freedom will be found, Next, try to be obedient, read my word, give me your best, And if you fall, my Spirit, "The Holy Ghost" will pick you up and do the rest!!!!
I love you and will never forsake you, and yes, I'm with you-it's really true!!!
Eternally Yours, Jesus Christ, your Redeemer!!!

It's Time to Grow
My family has recently expanded as we added another little boy to the quiver, Mason Anthony was born 3 months ago. He joins Trey who just turned 6 and Michael who is 3.5 years old. (3.5 mind you, he'll let you know if you forget the "and a half") Boy, they are a lot of fun! I would love to take the time to tell you story after story of how they make my wife and I laugh all the time. Michael is completely funny, he has a deep raspy voice and every word he speaks comes out loud! Trey is extremely funny as well. He's also very intelligent; he has a quick wit and loves to ask questions. I might say that he takes after me in this way. :-)
For some time now we have implemented a discipline with Trey that we will tell him things only one time and then we expect him to do it. This discipline came into play because Trey will ask over and over the old preverbal question that parents don't want to hear, "but why"? Most of the time, I don't mind explaining things to him, I have found my explanation is what helps him understand and usually speeds up the learning process. But sometimes, Trey doesn't understand what I'm saying. In these moments, it's still expected of him to obey what was told to him and to respond accordingly the first time he is told. When he chooses not to listen and learn, there are consequences that he will have to accept as a result of his disobedience. This usually means there is a spanking in his near future. (For those of you who are against spanking, sorry, I'm old school. As Will Smith said; "I will touch that butt when you cut out of line...") Besides, I got a lot of spankings growing up and I turned out fine. I might as well pass the tradition on. Holla'!
This reminds me of a situation God dealt with concerning His chosen people, the Israelites. They often chose to be disobedient and ignore what God was telling them. As a result they were punished - a lot, and sometimes severely. Notice His words to his people in Isaiah 28:9: "The Lord is trying to teach the people a lesson; He is trying to make them understand His teachings. But the people are like babies too old for breast milk, like those who no longer nurse at their mother's breast."
Sadly, this scripture still applies to you and me as Gods' chosen people, even years later. God loves us, He thinks we are funny and we bring smiles to His face. He has wonderful stories that He longs to tell the angels about how talented and sharp we are. He is there for us watching us grow and mature. But, like all parents, He sometimes has issues with us being disobedient. He desires for us to do everything He tells us to do and this is outlined in His word. Unlike the rules for my son Trey, fortunately for us, God doesn't implement the "I'm only going to tell you one time rule". If he did, many of us would be in big trouble. Don't sit around asking why and waiting for God to start handing out punishments before you start to do what He says. Bottom line is we need to show spiritual maturity and realize that it's time to grow.
You know what I'm saying?
