You know what time it is!
Legendary UCLA Basketball Coach John Wooden said: “People usually know what they need to do to get what they want. They just won’t do it. They are not willing to pay the price!”
WOW!!! I read that quote a few months ago and I have spent a while meditating on it. What does it mean? How does it apply to my life? What is it that I really want? Do I really know how to get it? Am I unwilling to do what’s necessary to achieve what I want? Does this mean I am lazy and unmotivated? All of these questions and more have run through mind. It’s tough to swallow a quote like that because it has a lot to say about who we really are. A quote like this challenges us to thing about our character and inner being. Are we willing to pay the price to get what we want, to be what we want to be to have the things we want and need to have?
This quote is deep because it applies to every area of our life. Are we willing to have the discipline to get things we want? Are we willing to stay motivated and preserver to the finish? Are we willing to work hard and long in order to get what we want? Are we capable and willing to plan and think things through so that we can be efficient with our time and efforts?
The answer to these questions, if we truly expect to get what we want, has to be yes, we are willing to pay the price!
Paying the price is the hard part! This is why most people won’t get the things they want, achieve what they are capable of achieving, or reach their full potential… because they are unwilling to pay the price. I would imagine the price is well above the average effort and performance. It surely is beyond our natural abilities or instincts. The price requires us being willing to give more than we have given of ourselves in the past in order to grow a little more each day. The price involves seeing weakness leave our bodies by enduring after the pain starts. The price is seen in our blood, sweat and tears.
Perhaps the best example of the price being paid was seen when Jesus died on the cross for you and me. He wanted to show his love for us and so he did all that he could think to do in order to ensure that we really got the point. He was willing to pay the price to get the message to you that he wants a relationship with you.
Are you willing to pay the price to show him you accept his sacrifice?
You know what time it is!
