Praying in the Harvest As a young boy, I remember hearing the older saints say things like; “God is getting ready to pour out his spirit on this nation in a way that we have never seen before.” They would then tell us young people to “get ready.” Get ready? What does that mean? Like so many others, I guess I really didn’t know what getting ready actually entailed. I wanted to see the Lord do a mighty work, miraculous healings, signs and wonders and the like. But, what did my getting ready have to do with those things happening? Is there a part that you and I can play in seeing God’s purpose revealed throughout the earth? He did say that he would pour out his spirit on all nations, but isn’t it up to God alone to do what he wants to do and when he wants to do it? Yes and no, God is God and he does what He wants to do, and we are called to be a part of the process! E.M. Bounds said; “prayer touches the heart of God and moves the hand of God.” If we want to see God work in mighty ways and bring about a great spiritual harvest, we have to start by asking him to do it. Prayer can do anything that God can do. By praying, we unleash the power of God to work. If we want to see God pour out his spirit on our church, in our community, on this nation, we have to start by praying and asking him to do so. I used to believe that only a select few people were called to be prayer warriors. I thought that God chose certain people to have a direct connection to him, and, as long as they were lifting up our needs to Him in prayer, everything would be all right. Boy, was I wrong! The Bible tells us that it is God’s will for us to pray continually (I Thessalonians 5:17-18). I have come to realize that prayer can be learned and we’re all expected to learn from Jesus’ example. Like students, we must be willing to practice and labor in order to become skillful at praying. Always remember that practice makes perfect. I encourage you to be in prayer for your church, your community and the body of Christ as a whole. Join your hearts together with other believers and let’s “get ready” together and pray in the harvest of souls that the Lord wants to bring forth. Word...
