Meet my Parking AngelParking Angel Posted on Original Brotha 9.29.06
I have often told people I have a parking angel. It seems as though whenever I drive onto a parking lot, I have a good parking space ready for me. This has happened to me more times than not. Why? Because I have a parking angel that goes before me and finds me a good parking space near the front. Don't drink hateraide if you don't have an angel.
Whenever people ride with me, they are amazed at how often I find good parking spaces. What's the real deal with this? It's simple. I expect to get a good parking space. I truly expect that when I pull onto a parking lot, I will have a good parking space waiting for me. I drive to the front of the store and start looking for the parking space closest to the door and then start working my way to the back of the lot from there. I go into every parking lot thinking that I will get a close parking space. It starts by the way I drive to the front of the lot first and then start by working to the back.
This is completely opposite of a lot of people. A lot of people drive onto a parking lot and take the first available parking space because they figure it's the best they are going to get. I hope this isn't you. But these people don't expect to get a good spot and start settling early on in their pursuit of a close space.
I have found this is the case in life as well. Some people go through life ready to settle for something that is "good enough" from the very beginning. They don't really expect for things to go their way and they are willing to quickly settle for the first opportunity that comes their way. Author and Pastor, Andy Stanley says; "the good is the enemy of the best". This is true in the lives of most people. They are too willing to accept the good instead of risking that for the best.
I always want the best. I want the best effort from those I work with, I want the best toys and equipment, I want the best for my family and I even want the best parking space I can find. That's how I live my life, searching for the best.
I would admit, it's often a risk to go for the best and not settle for something that's good. There have been times that I have passed up the good in search for the best and ended up with something worse. Unfortunately, I have passed up a good parking space that was close because I was looking for a better one and ended up even farther away. This happens sometimes because there are no guarantees with my parking angel, just like in life - no guarantees. Like searching for a parking space, I should go into every situation in life, by heading to the front of the pack and expecting a favorable outcome. By doing this I have found the good spots more often than not. Do you believe?
